Announcing the 2007 Youth Commission Local Musician Winners

July 19, 2007

This year, the Oak Forest Youth Commission hosted two separate competitions for local teen musicians, one live at the festival and one online.

The winner of the live “Battle of the Bands” competition was Loaded Motive, who now moves on to a regional competition.  Bands were judged on a variety of criteria ranging from appearance, originality, energy/movement, musicianship, song structure and complexity.  It was an extremely close competition with a mere few points separating the top two bands.

The second competition was an online popularity poll in which Albatross won with 319 votes (35%).  Loaded Motive came in second with 269 votes (30%) and Fox Country came in third with 95 votes (11%).

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Teen Tent as well as the online poll!

Announcing the Winner of the 2007 Oak Fest “Most Entertaining Band” contest

July 19, 2007

Based on our online poll that opened a few days prior to the event and closed a day after the festival ended, Club 44 had the highest number of votes with 130 votes (29%). Congratulations!

Copper Snake came in second with 64 votes (14%) and there was a two-way tie for third place between Hairbanger’s Ball and Infinity, both with 56 votes (12%).

We’ll be awarding this title again in 2008 and since your voice counts, please make sure you return to our website after dancing the night away and let these musicians know how much you love ‘em!

We’ve Only Just Begun…

July 4, 2007

Another successful Oak Fest has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean the Oak Fest spirit has disappeared. In fact, over the next few weeks, there will be many new changes to the main website located at www.oakfest.com.

For example, we will be announcing the winners of the “Most Entertaining Band” as well as the “Most Popular Band” from the Oak Forest Youth Commission’s Battle of the Bands. We also have many more photographs to upload to the site, however you can certainly review what we have already posted to this blog by clicking here.

One of the new features of the Oak Fest website is our year-round Salute To Hometown Heroes. If you haven’t checked it out yet, be sure to stop by and see what pages we’ve been pulling together for your use. There is a list of resources for veterans as well as numerous ways citizens can get involved with supporting our American Heroes. Our intent is to grow this section over the next year so be sure to stop by once and a while.

Also, if you haven’t placed our RSS feed on your desktop yet, be sure to add us since the 2008 Oak Fest is not that far away and there is a lot of work to be done.   We will be using this blog for announcements throughout the year, including posting a schedule of board meetings which the public is invited to attend.

A special thank you goes out to everyone who participated behind-the-scenes of the 20th Anniversary Oak Fest!  Without your help, this event wouldn’t have been the success that it was.  You all deserve a standing ovation!

So even though the 2007 Oak Fest is now a part of history, the 21st Anniversary Oak Fest has only just begun…  :)

There’s Still Time to Vote for the “Most Entertaining Band”

July 4, 2007

The 20th Anniversary Oak Fest may be over, but the celebration still continues online. In fact, you still have until 5:00pm today (July 5th) to cast your vote for the “Most Entertaining Band” of the 2007 Oak Fest.

You only get one vote* so make that vote count! Help us decide what band this year deserves the honors of “Most Entertaining” and we will publish the results on the site for the rest of the year as well as give the band an Oak Fest Awards Certificate.

Click here to cast your vote.

* We track the voting process using a combination of cookies and your ISP number, to prevent spamming of the poll. Abuse of the polling interface will not be tolerated.
